terrariums

D. I . Y.

This is my first DIY post. Don't know why because I love to get crafty. (But I suppose, I find this more of a personal blog than anything else.) I was inspired to do a terrarium for a while (hence all the DIY terrarium tutorials on the web before this one) but lacked the materials, however, recently I was buying flowers and found everything needed. These sweet terrariums bring the outdoor life inside and are super easy to create & maintain.

What you will need:
  • Moss
  • Tiny spoon
  • Jars - any size, up to you
  • Chopsticks
  • Soil
  • Charcoal
  • Shells / rocks
In General, not much. Plus, you can add any other tiny trinket you might find interesting. I couldn't find charcoal at the flower shop near my place, so I explained to the shopkeeper the purpose of it and despite the language barrier she was able to provide me with some materials that have the same purpose.

Step 1: Add a base layer - this is where you add
either shells or rocks or a mix of both.

Step 2 (left): Add a thin layer of charcoal -
this is what cleans the air.
Step 3 (right): Add soil, (depending on the size of your jar) you can play around with this and create the illusion of a landscape.
I used tiny jars so that was not possible.

Step 4: Add the moss or if using a bigger jar a
terrarium plant/s and voila, simple!

I'm really happy with the outcome of my two tiny terrariums. I've only added a few drops of water and they are suppose to be set for a couple of weeks (but don't cite me on that).

I hope this at least sparked some inspiration in you,
enjoy, and have a lovely day ᵕ꒶̮ᵕ

Only Eyes

Its 9:08 AM on a Saturday and I am wide awake - have been since 7. My sleeping schedule (what sleeping schedule???) has been in disarray ever since I arrived in Denmark (when hasn't it been?). I go for days without sleeping, then other days I sleep over 12 hours and its just a continuous cycle that hasn't stopped for at least 4 months now.. Today is one of those days where I try and adjust by not sleeping a whole day in order to fall asleep early the next an wake up early, confusing? doesn't matter.

Life in Denmark has been bittersweet. I love the fact that I have been very successful at doing absolutely everything on my own (and I mean everything!). Perhaps this is a result of me looking out the window and seeing piles and piles of snow and all I want to do is go outside, but CANT! its freezing (yes, I'm a pansy, but I also have sore throat as a result from yesterdays run-around-town-and-try-to-accomplish-a-million-things day (while it is snowing)).

Before Denmark I had never experienced snow. Its a winter wonderland up in here! And I love that. Yet, I can't handle it. I don't know how the older population does. Seriously, they are usually out and about and I'm just in disbelief because since November began being outside for me was/is excruciating; I am always tense and constantly shaking.

Thought I'd wanted to write and ramble BUT I guess I really don't ....

Rather cook some breakfast, have some coffee and
float around to see what today holds.
Hahah ~ I will try to get back to this soon

Hope everybody has a wonderful weekend !!

Ah, so I am in Denmark. Incredible. Still in disbelief... Time has flown by; still adjusting. The weather here is bitter. Makes me want to stay in all the time.. Drastic change in my opinion. Living alone for the first time. The solitude has done me well (introspection). and I've been cooking like never before!!

Aside from the big move, nothing much has occurred. There's definitely some major differences in culture, but perhaps I will write about that some other time...

Going to Berlin and Prague in two weeks, so exited about that n_n

Hopefully, I will post + pictures soon.

Carousel - Where have you gone?

PS. share some love on how to cope with gloomy weather!
